PTE Score for State Nomination

The subclass 190 and 491 visas both require nomination by an Australian state or territory. Nomination adds points to your application — but it does not change the English requirement. The per-skill PTE thresholds shown below are the same ones that apply to every skilled visa, whichever subclass you are aiming for.

What nomination changes is who decides whether you are invited. Each state and territory runs its own program, publishes its own list of eligible occupations, and sets its own selection criteria — often above the federal minimum, and revised through the year as places fill. Some also weight local work experience, a job offer, or study in the state. Clearing the English threshold makes you eligible; it does not make you competitive, and the bar that decides an invitation is set by the nominating body, not by Home Affairs.

Because state criteria change frequently, there is no fixed score that guarantees nomination. Treat any figure you read as a snapshot. Check the current requirements on the nominating state or territory's own skilled migration pages before you plan around them, and confirm the federal English and points rules with the Department of Home Affairs.
